03/05/2010 Weekly Response

Hello classmates I am still unsure of why my computer cannot post a video posting so once again I am using text to update my progress in REED 502. This week is a bit confusing on how the power point is to be completed as far as the hypothetical questions that are considered more opinionated verse actually material covered. I did find that using different media outlet's as oppose to traditional classwork assignments is peaking my interest in this reading course which in my past experiences can be somewhat reading the text and writing lame summaries. So hats off to Dr. Jenkins by incorporating a more hands on approach to other individual learning styles especially in a on-line course. I can say that I am learning a lot about the actual names for the techniques that I currently use in my classroom along with other ways to help enforce the strategies in class.

  1. I like that Dr. Jenkins has asked for us to complete these Power Point assignments - very refreshing. I have found this text helpful, also, in that it helps to remind me to keep the interests of my students at heart when creating reading assignments.

  2. I agree that active learning is an important part of ANY learning at ANY age. It's good that you're learning new techniques and putting things into schemas - however, I wonder what you actually thought about the assigned reading.

  3. I am wondering what this post has to do with the reading assignment? I do agree that using different types of technology is useful, but I do not know what you took from the reading.

  4. This book was an excellent reference as an in-service educator for understanding how one had to be the book. I think that the authors truly explain the expectation of educators. Instead of teaching a subject, should expect from ourselves the opportunity to train thinkers. I think that, above everything else is what I found in this book. It’s not as important to be able to find answers as it is to encourage students to think, to want to read, and find resources that are relevant to their lives. I also agree that Dr. Jenkins is doing a great job incorporating various outlets for this class.

  5. The post pretty much describes your week and opinions on the book, but no "meat" of the reading. It is nice that there is an alternative to the video because it has been a pain for me also.

  6. I agree with you about the course and Dr. Jenkins' approach to the different methods to keep us engaged with literacy. We are reflecting and becoming empowered with the use of technology and the various literacy instructions. Some students are familiar while others are not familiar with the blogging and podcasting. However this experience will support us later when we will need the teach students or other teachers because we have been exposed to it during our on-line course in graduate school.

  7. I agree that technology in the classroom is a very useful tool to for our students to have access. I was just in classroom that used an audio visual screen and the teacher used a microphone. The screen even had touch responses it was amazing .
